The biology course is divided into SL (standard level) and HL (Higher level).
It is advised that students interested in the medical field enroll in the HL course. Otherwise, the SL course is a more convenient choice for those who plan to take biology as one of the science requirements.
The Biology course consists of different modules. Each module covers one topic. The following are the topics covered in each of the Biology courses:
The core topics in IB Biology are as follows:
Topic 1 – Cell biology
Topic 2 – Molecular biology
Topic 3 – Genetics
Topic 4 – Ecology
Topic 5 – Evolution and biodiversity
Topic 6 – Human physiology
The additional higher-level topics in IB Biology are:
Topic 7 – Nucleic acids
Topic 8 – Metabolism, cell respiration, and photosynthesis
Topic 9 – Plant Biology
Topic 10 – Genetics and evolution
Topic 11 – Animal physiology
Each topic is a module, we will be working on each module separately.
The online module consists of:
- Study notes to help you study the topic and cover all the requirements
- Assessment at the end of each module where I will send you a report with how well you did and comments on your mistakes.
The virtual module consists of:
- Study notes to study from
- Powerpoints presented in the online class will be uploaded for your review
- On-going assessments throughout the sessions for me to assess your learning and help you progress in the curriculum.
